In the Naga’s Wake By Mick O’Shea

‘A Book that delivers a powerful message on behalf of the Mekong Subsistence Peoples’

As a gesture of his gratitude to the kindness and good will shown to him by the Mekong subsistence peoples of six nations and in order to help kick start the establishment of the Mekong Descent foundation, Mick O’Shea has kindly donated 50% of his authors income rights from ‘In the Naga’s Wake’ to the Mekong Descent Foundation.

With ‘In the Naga’s Wake’ being the culmination of more than two years of dedicated work while on the expedition and in writing we would like to thank Mick for his generosity and we believe that the strong awareness building message of his book will help to spread the word of what an incredible region the Mekong basin is and to create greater awareness and concern for some of the most wide spread human rights and resource rights violations in the world today.

A Journey of Discovery like no other’

Tracing the trail left by a mythical river serpent referred to in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia as the ‘Narg or Naga’, a man touched by the environments and cultures of the Mekong valley attempts the first ever full exploration and navigation of the rivers mainstream from Tibet to the South China Sea.

An incredible journey of cutting edge
adventure and the struggle to survive unfolds
as Mick tackles some of the last truly
unexplored regions on earth solo. Life threatening environments, team conflict and financial problems all threaten to derail
the expedition in the early stages yet as the
trials and tribulations are overcome, the true inspiration for Mick’s journey comes to the forefront as a series of unforgettable
characters and environments weave their way into the fabric of the journey and Mick’s life.

The Mekong dependent peoples and environments are facing dramatic change as profit motivated mega projects compromise the rivers time honoured ability to deliver the water, fisheries and silt upon which they subsist. Mick’s insightful exploration of several key issues facing the Mekong dependent subsistence peoples, and the environments upon which they survive helps to shed light on some of the most significant human rights and resource rights violations of our time.

In the Naga’s wake is an unforgettable story of adventure, hope, friendship, love and inspiration,
set amongst a backdrop of unsurpassed natural beauty and one mans struggle to achieve a dream. This book documents one of the great exploratory journeys of our time.
